| WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the | ||
| passing of Jerry L. Hickman on August 28, 2022, at the age of 79; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Margaret "Scottie" Hickman, | ||
| Jerry Hickman was born on October 7, 1942, in Dallas and grew up | ||
| sharing in the companionship of three siblings, Becky, Charles, and | ||
| Mikey; he graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 and went on to | ||
| earn a bachelor's degree in sociology from Midwestern State | ||
| University, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa; a veteran of | ||
| the U.S. Navy, he was stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft | ||
| carrier; and | ||
| WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in sociology from | ||
| Texas Tech University, Mr. Hickman started his career at the Texas | ||
| Rehabilitation Commission as a counselor, and he went on to become a | ||
| regional director, a position he held until retirement; he received | ||
| recognition as an outstanding manager of the local TRC office; he | ||
| also participated in numerous YMCA programs and helped | ||
| underprivileged children and children with disabilities through | ||
| the YMCA Office of Economic Opportunity; in his leisure time, he | ||
| enjoyed running, hiking, and playing racquetball and golf; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hickman took great pride in his daughter, | ||
| Shanna, and with the passing years, he had the privilege of seeing | ||
| his family grow to include a beloved granddaughter, Emma; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Known for his loyalty, his honesty, and his | ||
| dedication to helping others, Jerry Hickman touched countless lives | ||
| during his journey on this earth, and he will forever be remembered | ||
| with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry L. Hickman and | ||
| extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry | ||
| Hickman. | ||
