WHEREAS, Shelley Smith, the longtime chief executive officer | ||
of West Texas Centers in Big Spring, retired on July 12, 2024, after | ||
40 years of dedicated service to the community mental health | ||
center; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Smith accepted the role of CEO in May 1996; | ||
under her guidance, the center experienced significant growth, and | ||
it continues to be a major regional provider of services related to | ||
mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities, | ||
including an early childhood intervention program; and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, West Texas Centers serves a 23-county area, | ||
employs nearly 325 people, and treats more than 2,000 patients and | ||
their families every month at 35 locations; throughout her tenure | ||
as CEO, Ms. Smith kept the well-being of the organization's clients | ||
at the forefront of her decision-making, and she set an inspiring | ||
example for staff through her exemplary work ethic and unwavering | ||
compassion; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the past four decades, Shelley Smith made a | ||
meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and families | ||
served by West Texas Centers, and she may indeed reflect with pride | ||
on her contributions as she embarks on a well-deserved retirement; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor Shelley Smith on the occasion of her | ||
retirement as CEO of West Texas Centers and extend to her sincere | ||
best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
