R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, An exemplary life dedicated to the safety of his |
|
community drew to a close with the death of former Bastrop fire |
|
chief Michael C. Fisher on July 4, 2017, at the age of 74; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mike Fisher was born on October 6, 1942, to Merle and |
|
Mary Fisher, and he attended Cameron Junior College and Oklahoma |
|
State University; he was a loving husband to Bonnie Sue Fisher for |
|
43 years and the proud father of three children, Mary Sue, Wesley, |
|
and Robert; he also took great joy in welcoming into his family |
|
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of a distinguished career as a first |
|
responder and emergency manager, Mr. Fisher served with the Bastrop |
|
Fire Department from 1973 to 2013, and he led the agency as chief |
|
from 1985 to 1995; he also held the office of director of water and |
|
wastewater for Bastrop, and for 20 years, he was the city's |
|
emergency management coordinator; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his retirement from that post in 2005, |
|
Mr. Fisher served as deputy director of emergency management for |
|
Bastrop County; as an incident commander during the catastrophic |
|
wildfire in 2011, his skilled and rapid response helped save many |
|
lives, and he also provided invaluable support to other regional |
|
disaster response efforts, including the Burnet County floods in |
|
2007 and the fertilizer plant explosion in West in 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher was a member of the Capital Area Type 3 |
|
Incident Management Team and the Capital Area Council of |
|
Governments' Homeland Security Task Force, and he played an |
|
instrumental role in the creation of the Texas Emergency Management |
|
Assistance Team, a statewide network of multidisciplinary experts |
|
who provide quick response to disasters; his numerous honors |
|
include two Awards of Distinction from the Bastrop Chamber of |
|
Commerce and a Phoenix Award for Outstanding Contributions to |
|
Disaster Recovery by a Public Official from the U.S. Small Business |
|
Administration; and |
|
WHEREAS, For four and a half decades, Mike Fisher devoted |
|
himself to protecting the lives and property of the people of |
|
Bastrop and Bastrop County, and he leaves behind a record of service |
|
that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Michael C. Fisher and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn |
|
his passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mike |
|
Fisher. |
