WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their | ||
memories of John Lee Sullivan of Galveston, who passed away on | ||
December 24, 2024, at the age of 84; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Galveston to John and Bernice Sullivan on | ||
March 19, 1940, John Sullivan graduated from Ball High School in | ||
1958, and he went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he earned | ||
a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics; he completed | ||
postgraduate work in real estate at The University of Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Sullivan worked for the Texas General Land | ||
Office and the Texas Veterans Land Board before returning to | ||
Galveston to establish the real estate firm Sullivan and | ||
Associates; he later cofounded the land development company | ||
Sullivan Enterprises with his brother, Gerald, and among their | ||
numerous developments were Campeche Cove Residential Subdivision, | ||
Westgate Shopping Center, and Newport Galveston; while | ||
Mr. Sullivan's many businesses encompassed the real estate, | ||
maritime, and investment industries, his true love was ranching, | ||
and he owned Sullivan Land and Cattle Company and was a valued | ||
member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Galvestonian, Mr. Sullivan took | ||
great pride in his hometown and its history; he served on the | ||
Galveston City Council, and he held leadership roles with a number | ||
of organizations, including the Galveston Regional Chamber of | ||
Commerce, the Galveston Association of Realtors, and the Galveston | ||
College Board of Regents; he was also a lifelong member of | ||
First Lutheran Church of Galveston; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed the love | ||
and support of his wife, Cindy, with whom he shared a rewarding | ||
marriage that spanned 53 years; he was the father of three children, | ||
Kathryn, Elizabeth, and John, and he had the pleasure of seeing his | ||
family grow to include eight grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his | ||
community, John Sullivan earned the lasting respect and admiration | ||
of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Lee Sullivan and | ||
extend heartfelt condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John | ||
Sullivan. |
