WHEREAS, Proud residents of Plano are gathering in Austin on | ||
February 26, 2025, to celebrate Plano Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, The city traces its origins to the early 1850s, when | ||
William Forman established a general store, post office, and | ||
several other enterprises that became the hub of the community; the | ||
Houston and Texas Central Railway connected the area to nearby | ||
Dallas in 1872, and the town was officially incorporated the | ||
following year; in its early decades, Plano became home of several | ||
industries and served as a retail outlet for area farmers; the | ||
town's population increased at a moderate pace during the first | ||
half of the 1900s but has grown rapidly in the decades since, | ||
becoming a prominent part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, Plano boasts a population of more than | ||
290,000; the Plano Chamber of Commerce has played an important role | ||
in the city's economic growth through advocacy, education, | ||
innovation, and collaboration, and the community further benefits | ||
from the educational opportunities provided by the Plano | ||
Independent School District and two Collin College campuses; the | ||
city has received a host of accolades in recent years, including | ||
recognition by both the New York Times and WalletHub in 2024 as one | ||
of the best places in the country to raise children; and | ||
WHEREAS, Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the recreational | ||
activities at Oak Point Park and the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, | ||
and visitors and locals alike can explore the city's rich history at | ||
the Heritage Farmstead Museum, the Interurban Railway Museum, and | ||
the Plano African American Museum; the Plano Balloon Festival, one | ||
of the city's signature events, takes place each September; and | ||
WHEREAS, Plano has earned a well-deserved reputation as an | ||
outstanding place to live and work, and its citizens may take | ||
justifiable pride in the unique contributions that their community | ||
has made to the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 2025, as Plano Day at the | ||
State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation. |
