WHEREAS, Members of the Texas chapters of the National Urban | ||
League are gathering in Austin on March 13, 2025, for Urban League | ||
Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, Founded in New York City in September 1910, the | ||
National Urban League is the country's oldest and largest | ||
community-based movement dedicated to advancing economic and | ||
social justice for African Americans and other historically | ||
underserved groups; today, the organization has 92 affiliates | ||
across the United States; and | ||
WHEREAS, Every year, programs and initiatives sponsored by | ||
the National Urban League and the Urban League movement serve some | ||
3.8 million people and generate an economic impact of approximately | ||
$1.2 billion; over the past decade, the movement has reached more | ||
than 22 million people with its job placement, housing, health | ||
care, and education services and its initiatives to promote greater | ||
public engagement in our democracy and civic processes; and | ||
WHEREAS, The National Urban League and its affiliates have | ||
worked tirelessly in behalf of justice, equality, and opportunity | ||
for all Americans, and the participants in this advocacy day are | ||
demonstrating their commitment to championing policies and issues | ||
that benefit the public good; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby recognize March 13, 2025, as Urban League Day at | ||
the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting | ||
delegation. |
