WHEREAS, Many Texans are joining together with people around | ||
the world in celebration of the Lunar New Year on February 12, 2021; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year festival, which begins with the | ||
first new moon of the lunar calendar, is one of the most important | ||
religious and cultural holidays for people of Asian heritage; this | ||
year's festival marks the commencement of the Year of the Ox and | ||
ushers in the spring season, a new beginning, when members of the | ||
Asian community reflect on the past and make plans for the future; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The ox, the second animal of the Chinese Zodiac, | ||
symbolizes the virtues of hard work, honesty, kindness, | ||
tranquility, and reason; in ancient times, the ox was associated | ||
with prosperity due to its status as a valuable livestock animal; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Members of the Asian community play a vital role in | ||
the business, professional, and cultural life of the Lone Star | ||
State, and the Lunar New Year is a fitting time to reflect on their | ||
many contributions as we share our hopes for a prosperous future; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the Lunar New Year on February 12, | ||
2021, and extend to all who are celebrating the holiday sincere best | ||
wishes for health and happiness in the coming year. | ||
