WHEREAS, Proud residents of Rockwall County are marking the | ||
150th anniversary of their county's founding on January 22, 2023; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Located on the Blackland Prairie, the region was | ||
originally inhabited by the Caddo and Creek peoples; Anglo settlers | ||
first arrived in the area during the 1840s, when the Republic of | ||
Texas Central National Road was constructed, with the cities of | ||
Rockwall and Heath founded along this route; the area was part of | ||
Nacogdoches, Henderson, and Kaufman Counties before the official | ||
formation of Rockwall County in 1873; the county takes its name from | ||
the distinctive subterranean rock formation that crosses the land; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Despite being the smallest county in Texas, Rockwall | ||
County is one of the most prosperous counties in the state and one | ||
of the fastest growing counties in the country; located just | ||
outside of Dallas and bounded on the west by Lake Ray Hubbard, the | ||
county has shifted in recent years from a largely agricultural area | ||
to a desirable residential suburb; and | ||
WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work together | ||
to build an even brighter future, the people of Rockwall County may | ||
indeed take great pride in the role their community continues to | ||
play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Rockwall | ||
County and extend to the county's residents sincere best wishes for | ||
the future. | ||
