WHEREAS, Gilberto Amado Hinojosa, Sr., of Benavides has | ||
rendered outstanding service to his community and to the people of | ||
Duval County; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born to Alfredo Hinojosa and Anita Garcia at El | ||
Refugio Ranch, in Duval County, on February 4, 1919, Mr. Hinojosa | ||
later moved with his family to Benavides; his father owned dairy | ||
cows, and from the time he was just eight years old he would rise | ||
early each morning to deliver milk to area residents; while | ||
attending high school, he played football, basketball, and | ||
baseball, and he graduated in 1937; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Hinojosa has been a rancher and | ||
has worked in construction; he was employed with Humble | ||
Construction, Stern-Rogers Construction, Mike Canales Building, | ||
and Hudson Engineering, which hired him as a carpenter's assistant | ||
and soon promoted him to foreman; he retired in the mid-1970s from | ||
his job in the PBG Brine Field; and | ||
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has long given generously of his | ||
time and talents to civic organizations and worthy causes; he has | ||
served as a member of the Benavides City Council, the Benavides | ||
Independent School District Board of Trustees, and the Duval County | ||
Appraisal District Board of Directors; he also played an active | ||
role in the Freedom Party, an organization composed primarily of | ||
Mexican American veterans of World War II who were committed to | ||
opening up the local political process; a member of the American | ||
Legion, he continues to contribute to his church and his community; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Gilberto Hinojosa and his wife, the former Margarita | ||
Couling, became the second couple to be married at Santa Rosa de | ||
Lima Catholic Church in Benavides when they exchanged their wedding | ||
vows there on June 22, 1941; the Hinojosas are the proud parents of | ||
twin daughters and two sons, and they have rejoiced as their family | ||
has grown to include 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and | ||
5 great-great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to the welfare of his fellow | ||
citizens, Gilberto Hinojosa has worked to create a strong, caring | ||
community, and he can indeed reflect with pride on a long record of | ||
constructive achievement; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Gilberto Amado | ||
Hinojosa, Sr., for his exemplary public service and extend to him | ||
sincere best wishes for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Hinojosa as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
