WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort | ||
those saddened by the passing of Wayne Smith Johnston of | ||
San Antonio on July 14, 2022, at the age of 77; and | ||
WHEREAS, Wayne Johnston was born in Port Arthur on January 5, | ||
1945, to Lottie and John Johnston Jr.; he grew up on a ranch in | ||
Harper with the companionship of two brothers, John and Richard, | ||
and he graduated from Tivy High School in 1963; shortly thereafter, | ||
he met his future wife, the former "Sue" Cunningham, on a blind date | ||
at Crider's in Hunt, and the couple continued their relationship | ||
even after he was drafted and deployed to Germany during the Vietnam | ||
War in 1966; they married on November 7, 1968, and went on to share | ||
more than five decades together; and | ||
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Johnston and | ||
his wife moved to Lubbock, and in 1972, he graduated from Texas Tech | ||
University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural agronomy; the | ||
couple then moved to San Antonio, where he owned a tractor | ||
dealership for several years and enjoyed a long and rewarding | ||
career in agricultural sales; and | ||
WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Johnston treasured the time | ||
spent with his family, and he took great pride in his children, | ||
Jamie Lynn and Wayne Bryson, and his grandchildren, Jack and | ||
Benton; he was an active member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, | ||
where he served as an elder and deacon for many years; in his | ||
leisure time, he enjoyed going on family vacations, hunting, | ||
fishing, and cheering on the Red Raiders football team; and | ||
WHEREAS, Admired for his devotion to his family and his | ||
generosity of spirit, Wayne Johnston enriched the lives of all who | ||
knew him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Wayne Smith Johnston | ||
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and to | ||
his friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wayne | ||
Johnston. | ||
