R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
  those saddened by the passing of Wayne Smith Johnston of
  San Antonio on July 14, 2022, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, Wayne Johnston was born in Port Arthur on January 5,
  1945, to Lottie and John Johnston Jr.; he grew up on a ranch in
  Harper with the companionship of two brothers, John and Richard,
  and he graduated from Tivy High School in 1963; shortly thereafter,
  he met his future wife, the former "Sue" Cunningham, on a blind date
  at Crider's in Hunt, and the couple continued their relationship
  even after he was drafted and deployed to Germany during the Vietnam
  War in 1966; they married on November 7, 1968, and went on to share
  more than five decades together; and
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Johnston and
  his wife moved to Lubbock, and in 1972, he graduated from Texas Tech
  University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural agronomy; the
  couple then moved to San Antonio, where he owned a tractor
  dealership for several years and enjoyed a long and rewarding
  career in agricultural sales; and
         WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Johnston treasured the time
  spent with his family, and he took great pride in his children,
  Jamie Lynn and Wayne Bryson, and his grandchildren, Jack and
  Benton; he was an active member of Northwood Presbyterian Church,
  where he served as an elder and deacon for many years; in his
  leisure time, he enjoyed going on family vacations, hunting,
  fishing, and cheering on the Red Raiders football team; and
         WHEREAS, Admired for his devotion to his family and his
  generosity of spirit, Wayne Johnston enriched the lives of all who
  knew him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Wayne Smith Johnston
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and to
  his friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wayne
  Johnston.
