R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Cynthia Marie Tapia received the Drs. Giovanni and
  Maria Grazia Micci Award for Mentoring Excellence from The
  University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston Graduate School of
  Biomedical Sciences in 2016; and
         WHEREAS, A pharmacology and toxicology graduate student at
  UTMB, Ms. Tapia earned this prestigious accolade for her invaluable
  contributions to the university as a research mentor to her fellow
  students; and
         WHEREAS, Maintaining a grade point average of 3.91, Ms. Tapia
  skillfully balances a challenging course load with her work as a
  graduate assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Fernanda Laezza, M.D.,
  Ph.D., and associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology
  and Toxicology at UTMB; Ms. Tapia is a UTMB Presidential Scholar
  and a National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
  pre-doctoral fellow, and she has participated in a number of
  conferences and presentations and coauthored two published papers
  related to her research; in addition, she serves as president of the
  Pharmacology and Toxicology Student Organization and as the
  specialty's ambassador to the Graduate Student Organization; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Robert and Dalia Tapia, Cynthia
  Tapia graduated as valedictorian of the Robstown High School Class
  of 2011; she holds a bachelor's degree in biology from St. Edward's
  University in Austin, where she was a peer tutor, Hilltop Mentor,
  and McNair Scholar; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her academic career, this bright young
  Texan has demonstrated her commitment to excellence and her desire
  to help others achieve scholastic success, and she is indeed
  deserving of this most recent honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Cynthia Marie Tapia on her receipt
  of the Drs. Giovanni and Maria Grazia Micci Award for Mentoring
  Excellence from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston
  Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and extend to her sincere
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Tapia as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
