A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a program to provide housing vouchers to emergency
medical services personnel in certain counties.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter K, Chapter 2306, Government Code, is
amended by adding Section 2306.2595 to read as follows:
Sec. 2306.2595. HOUSING VOUCHER PROGRAM FOR EMERGENCY
MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL. (a) In this section, "emergency
medical services personnel" has the meaning assigned by Section
773.003, Health and Safety Code.
(b) The department shall, using available resources,
establish a housing voucher program in a county with a population of
more than 1 million and less than 1.5 million to provide housing
vouchers to emergency medical services personnel.
(c) The department shall adopt rules:
(1) governing the program's administration;
(2) establishing eligibility criteria for a person to
receive a housing voucher under the program;
(3) establishing a mechanism to determine the amount
of a housing voucher provided under the program; and
(4) prescribing any other program requirements the
department determines necessary.
(d) The department may accepts gifts, grants, and donations
from any source to establish and operate the program.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
