relating to tuition and fee bills or billing statements provided to | ||
students by certain public institutions of higher education. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 54.015, Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
Sec. 54.015. BILLING AND NOTIFICATION FOR TUITION AND FEES. | ||
(a) In this section, "general academic teaching institution" and | ||
"public state college" have the meanings assigned by Section | ||
61.003. | ||
(b) A general academic teaching institution other than a | ||
public state college shall provide to each student enrolled at the | ||
institution for a semester or term a tuition and fee bill or other | ||
billing statement for that semester or term. The bill or statement | ||
must: | ||
(1) state the total amount of all tuition and fees | ||
charged to the student for the semester or term; and | ||
(2) include an itemized list of: | ||
(A) the tuition and fees charged to the student | ||
by the institution for each course in which the student is enrolled | ||
for that semester or term; and | ||
(B) each other fee charged to the student by the | ||
institution for that semester or term. | ||
(c) For billing and catalogue purposes, each governing | ||
board shall accumulate all the tuition that it charges under this | ||
chapter into one tuition charge. | ||
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies | ||
beginning with the 2015 fall semester. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
