relating to the vaccination against bacterial meningitis of public | ||
school students. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 38.001, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | ||
(a-1) Each student shall be fully immunized against | ||
bacterial meningitis, except as provided by Subsection (c). To | ||
satisfy the requirement of this subsection, a student must show | ||
proof of a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine and a | ||
booster dose of that vaccine in accordance with the recommended | ||
immunization schedule adopted by the Department of State Health | ||
Services, as well as any additional vaccine recommended for the | ||
prevention of bacterial meningitis by the federal Centers for | ||
Disease Control and Prevention. The executive commissioner of the | ||
Health and Human Services Commission shall adopt rules for the | ||
implementation of this subsection. | ||
SECTION 2. Not later than June 1, 2020, the executive | ||
commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission shall | ||
adopt the rules necessary to implement Section 38.001(a-1), | ||
Education Code, as added by this Act. | ||
SECTION 3. Section 38.001(a-1), Education Code, as added by | ||
this Act, applies beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
