| relating to personal leave provided for a classroom teacher to | ||
| testify at a public hearing. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 22.0031 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 22.0031. PERSONAL LEAVE FOR TESTIFYING AT PUBLIC | ||
| HEARING. (a) In addition to all other days of leave provided by | ||
| Section 22.003 or by a school district, a classroom teacher is | ||
| entitled to not less than two days of leave for compensation to | ||
| testify at a public hearing of a local, state, or federal | ||
| governmental entity. | ||
| (b) Days of leave taken under this section may not be | ||
| deducted from a classroom teacher's accumulated personal leave. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
