testify at a public hearing. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 22.0031 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 22.0031. PERSONAL LEAVE FOR TESTIFYING AT PUBLIC | ||
HEARING. (a) In addition to all other days of leave provided by | ||
Section 22.003 or by a school district, a classroom teacher is | ||
entitled to not less than two days of leave for compensation to | ||
testify at a public hearing of a local, state, or federal | ||
governmental entity. | ||
(b) Days of leave taken under this section may not be | ||
deducted from a classroom teacher's accumulated personal leave. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
