| relating to the manufacture of voting machines by certain foreign | ||
| persons. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 122.0331, Election Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | ||
| (e) A manufacturer of voting systems used in an election may | ||
| not enter into a contract, or extend or renew a contract, for | ||
| software development services with: | ||
| (1) a company or other entity headquartered in China, | ||
| Cuba, Iran, North Korea, or Russia; or | ||
| (2) an individual who is based in China, Cuba, Iran, | ||
| North Korea, or Russia. | ||
| SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
| to an election ordered on or after the effective date of this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
