| relating to the inclusion of instruction and information about | ||
| mental health in the required curriculum for public high school | ||
| students. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (c-6) to read as follows: | ||
| (c-6) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules | ||
| requiring students to complete at least one course while in high | ||
| school that satisfies the requirements of Subsection | ||
| (a)(2)(B)(ii), which may include a health, physical education, or | ||
| career and technology education course. The course must include: | ||
| (1) instruction regarding: | ||
| (A) depression; | ||
| (B) anxiety; | ||
| (C) eating disorders; | ||
| (D) schizophrenia; and | ||
| (E) other mental health disorders; and | ||
| (2) information about cultivating coping skills and | ||
| seeking available mental health services. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
