relating to the establishment of an innovative workforce training | ||
center in the Rio Grande Valley. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 130, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 130.094 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 130.094. INNOVATIVE WORKFORCE TRAINING CENTER. (a) In | ||
this section, "training center" means the Innovative Workforce | ||
Training Center established under this section. | ||
(b) The Innovative Workforce Training Center is established | ||
to develop and provide initial and continuing education and | ||
training for workers in the Rio Grande Valley, including education | ||
and training in the following specific areas: | ||
(1) welding; | ||
(2) civil, commercial, residential, and industrial | ||
construction; | ||
(3) installing electrical systems; | ||
(4) installing heating, ventilation, and | ||
air-conditioning systems; and | ||
(5) mechatronics. | ||
(c) Texas Southmost College shall administer the training | ||
center. The headquarters of the training center are located at | ||
Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. The training center may | ||
use property and facilities owned or leased by Texas Southmost | ||
College. | ||
(d) The training center may solicit and accept gifts and | ||
grants from any public or private source for purposes of this | ||
section. The legislature may appropriate money for purposes of | ||
this section. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
