A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to continuing education programs for fire detection and
  alarm device installation.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 6002.052(b), Insurance Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (b)  Under rules adopted under Section 6002.051, the
  department may create specialized licenses or registration
  certificates for an organization or individual engaged in the
  business of planning, certifying, leasing, selling, servicing,
  installing, monitoring, or maintaining fire alarm or fire detection
  devices or systems. The rules must establish appropriate training
  and qualification standards and continuing education requirements
  for each kind of license and certificate.
         SECTION 2.  Section 6002.159(b), Insurance Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (b)  If the commissioner certifies continuing education
  programs under this section, the commissioner by rule shall require
  license holders to participate [Participation] in the [continuing
  education] programs [is voluntary].
         SECTION 3.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to a license issued or renewed on or after the effective date of
  this Act. A license issued or renewed before the effective date of
  this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before the
  effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for
  that purpose.
         SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
