A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to responsibility for certain expenses incurred to
  temporarily house a child in the conservatorship of the Department
  of Family and Protective Services in a hotel.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 262, Family Code, is
  amended by adding Section 262.017 to read as follows:
         Sec. 262.017.  COUNTY RESPONSIBLE FOR CERTAIN HOUSING
  EXPENSES. (a)  In this section, "hotel" has the meaning assigned by
  Section 792.001, Health and Safety Code.
         (b)  If a court orders the Department of Family and
  Protective Services to provide temporary emergency care for a child
  under Section 264.107(g) in a hotel or other unlicensed setting,
  the county in which the court is located shall pay the expenses to
  house the child in that location, including the cost for room and
  board and the cost for department staff necessary to monitor the
  child.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
