relating to providing parents with notice of a school district's | ||
promotion and retention policies. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 28.0217 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 28.0217. NOTIFICATION OF PROMOTION AND RETENTION | ||
POLICIES. A school district shall include with the written notice | ||
required under Section 28.022(a)(2) notice of the district's | ||
promotion and retention policies. The notice must include: | ||
(1) the requirements for student advancement under | ||
Sections 28.021 and 28.0211; and | ||
(2) an explanation of any change made to the district's | ||
promotion and retention policies since the district's requirements | ||
for advancement were made public by the start of the school year | ||
under Section 28.021(d). | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2011-2012 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
