BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "agency" means the | ||
Texas Education Agency. | ||
SECTION 2. STUDY REGARDING SCHOOL DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION | ||
SERVICES. (a) The agency, with the participation of appropriate | ||
stakeholders, shall conduct a study regarding transportation | ||
services provided by school districts in this state and the extent | ||
to which available state and local resources are sufficient to meet | ||
the costs of providing those services. | ||
(b) The study must include an evaluation of the | ||
transportation allotment provided under Section 42.155, Education | ||
Code. | ||
(c) The agency may enter into one or more contracts with an | ||
individual or a public or private entity, including an institution | ||
of higher education, for services relating to the study. | ||
SECTION 3. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December | ||
1, 2014, the agency shall submit a report to the legislature that | ||
includes the results of the study and any associated | ||
recommendations. | ||
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect | ||
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members | ||
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas | ||
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for | ||
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
