prospective anatomical gift donors. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter M, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, | ||
is amended by adding Section 521.276 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 521.276. DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL APPOINTMENT SYSTEM | ||
FOR PROSPECTIVE ANATOMICAL GIFT DONORS. (a) The department shall | ||
establish a system to allow a prospective anatomical gift donor to | ||
make an appointment for the person's driver's license renewal. | ||
Under the system: | ||
(1) an appointment may be made not later than 24 hours | ||
before the time scheduled for the appointment; | ||
(2) the department must make available at least four | ||
appointment times during each hour that the department office is | ||
open to the public for license renewal; and | ||
(3) the department may refuse to renew the license at | ||
the appointment if the person does not consent to inclusion in the | ||
donor registry. | ||
(b) The department shall include information about the | ||
availability of appointments for a prospective anatomical gift | ||
donor in license renewal notices. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
