WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize Augustin Rivera Jr. on receiving the 2023 | ||
Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the South Texas | ||
Council Boy Scouts of America; and | ||
WHEREAS, Each year, the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of | ||
America recognizes an individual who has demonstrated | ||
outstanding leadership abilities and has made significant | ||
positive contributions to the Coastal Bend community; and | ||
WHEREAS, This year, Augie Rivera will be honored at the | ||
Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner, which will be held on | ||
November 30, 2023; a lifelong resident of South Texas, Augie | ||
served as the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America | ||
Centennial Board President in 2019 and as a volunteer youth | ||
baseball, basketball, and chess coach and in a wide range of | ||
scouting roles; still active in the program, he volunteers at | ||
local and national levels; and | ||
WHEREAS, A graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law | ||
School, Augie practiced as a civil trial and appellate lawyer for | ||
more than 28 years before joining the Del Mar College District, | ||
where he serves as general counsel and is a member of the | ||
president's executive team; as an attorney, he has upheld the | ||
highest standards of his profession, and he has earned local, | ||
state, and national recognition for his achievements and his | ||
contributions to the field of law; and | ||
WHEREAS, Augie has served on the boards of a number of | ||
agencies and professional and nonprofit organizations, including | ||
those of the Ethics Commission of the City of Corpus Christi, the | ||
Corpus Christi Housing Authority, South Texas Broadcasting, | ||
Incorporated, and the Texas A&M--Corpus Christi Foundation; he | ||
currently serves as chair of the Texas Board of Law Examiners and | ||
sits on the boards of the National Conference of Bar Examiners | ||
and the National Association of College and University | ||
Attorneys; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of wisdom and integrity, Augie is a source | ||
of inspiration to former and future scouts and is a recipient of | ||
the organization's Silver Beaver Award; he is a devoted husband | ||
to the Honorable Julianna Siracusa Rivera and a proud father to | ||
four former scouts, including two Eagle Scouts; he has benefited | ||
countless Texans through his generosity and his service to his | ||
community, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition for | ||
his many positive contributions to South Texas; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Augie Rivera Jr. | ||
on earning the 2023 Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from | ||
the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America and extend to him | ||
best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
