| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| welcome the delegation from The University of Texas Medical | ||
| Branch at Galveston and join them in celebrating | ||
| February 5, 2013, as The University of Texas Medical Branch Day | ||
| at the Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The University of Texas Medical Branch at | ||
| Galveston was established in 1891, with 23 students meeting in a | ||
| single building under the direction of a faculty of 13; today, | ||
| this exceptional institution is a modern health science center | ||
| that features some 70 major buildings, more than 2,500 students, | ||
| and more than 1,000 faculty members; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The 84-acre campus is home to four schools, three | ||
| institutes for advanced study, a major medical library, a network | ||
| of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and | ||
| specialized care, an affiliated Shriners Hospital for Children, | ||
| and numerous research facilities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This outstanding establishment has remained true | ||
| to the values of compassion and respect for all, integrity, | ||
| diversity, and excellence and innovation through lifelong | ||
| learning; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For more than a century, The University of Texas | ||
| Medical Branch at Galveston has played a vital role in the health | ||
| and well-being of Texans and people around the world, and it is | ||
| truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
| 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and | ||
| staff of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and | ||
| extend to the school's delegation best wishes for The University | ||
| of Texas Medical Branch Day at the Capitol; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this special day. | ||
