SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 123
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the delegation from The University of Texas Medical
  Branch at Galveston and join them in celebrating
  February 5, 2013, as The University of Texas Medical Branch Day
  at the Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, The University of Texas Medical Branch at
  Galveston was established in 1891, with 23 students meeting in a
  single building under the direction of a faculty of 13; today,
  this exceptional institution is a modern health science center
  that features some 70 major buildings, more than 2,500 students,
  and more than 1,000 faculty members; and
         WHEREAS, The 84-acre campus is home to four schools, three
  institutes for advanced study, a major medical library, a network
  of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and
  specialized care, an affiliated Shriners Hospital for Children,
  and numerous research facilities; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding establishment has remained true
  to the values of compassion and respect for all, integrity,
  diversity, and excellence and innovation through lifelong
  learning; and
         WHEREAS, For more than a century, The University of Texas
  Medical Branch at Galveston has played a vital role in the health
  and well-being of Texans and people around the world, and it is
  truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and
  staff of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and
  extend to the school's delegation best wishes for The University
  of Texas Medical Branch Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special day.
