SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 123
         WHEREAS, Dr. Steve Packer retired as pastor of First
  Baptist Church of Pittsburg on April 16, 2017, following 22 years
  of committed service to that congregation; and
         WHEREAS, Brother Packer assumed the pulpit at First
  Baptist Church of Pittsburg in 1995 and went on to guide the
  church through a number of transformations, including the
  addition of more than 10 acres of property and its Lighthouse
  building, Family Life Center, and Life Solutions Counseling
  Center; and
         WHEREAS, Before joining the church, Brother Packer spent
  nearly a quarter century pastoring in Dallas, Pasadena, and
  McGregor, and he also worked for the Dallas Baptist Association
  as the administrator of its Mount Lebanon Baptist Encampment; he
  has given of his time and talents to the Executive Board of the
  Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Harmony Pittsburg
  Baptist Association as well as the Rotary Club; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed in all his endeavors with the love and
  encouragement of his wife, Donna, Brother Packer takes immense
  pride in their three children, Janet, David, and Daniel, and in
  their nine grandchildren; an alumnus of Howard Payne University,
  he holds a doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological
  Seminary; and
         WHEREAS, This inspiring clergyman led First Baptist Church
  of Pittsburg with conviction and compassion, and he has earned
  the lasting respect and admiration of his congregants and members
  of the wider community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Steve
  Packer on his retirement as pastor of First Baptist Church of
  Pittsburg and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  Pastor Packer as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
