WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
honor the Reverend Douglas E. Brown for his 20 years of service as | ||
teacher and pastor at the Great Commission Baptist Church in Fort | ||
Worth; and | ||
WHEREAS, Since he began his pastorate in 1993, Reverend | ||
Brown has increased the Great Commission congregation from 53 | ||
followers to more than 5,000; and | ||
WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father of two lovely | ||
daughters, the reverend has shown an unflagging commitment to his | ||
community and has received numerous accolades, including the | ||
"2001 Trail Blazer for Outstanding Dedication and Service," | ||
awarded by the Southwest Fort Worth Chapter of the National Women | ||
of Achievement; he is also a member of the Congressional Youth | ||
Leadership Council; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born into a family of faith, he is the son of the | ||
late Reverend Ulysses Brown, Sr., who was esteemed by his Fort | ||
Worth congregation; the younger Reverend Brown was called to the | ||
ministry in 1990 at Greater Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist | ||
Church; he is also a former deputy sheriff for the Tarrant County | ||
Sheriff's Office, where he worked for more than 11 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Reverend Brown has continually sought to | ||
strengthen his calling and shepherd his flock; he studied at | ||
Tyndale Theological Seminary and Southwestern Baptist | ||
Theological Seminary, and his commitment to his calling has | ||
enriched innumerable lives; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, hereby commend the Reverend Douglas E. Brown on his | ||
20-year pastorate at Greater Commission Baptist Church in Fort | ||
Worth; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
Reverend Brown as an expression of high regard from the Texas | ||
Senate. | ||
