WHEREAS, Citizens and business leaders of San Jacinto County | ||
are gathering in Austin on February 16, 2023, to celebrate San | ||
Jacinto County Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, Situated in the gently rolling hills of the stately | ||
Piney Woods, San Jacinto County was established in 1870 with | ||
Coldspring as the county seat; other notable towns include | ||
Shepherd, Oakhurst, and Point Blank; and | ||
WHEREAS, More than half of San Jacinto County is in the Sam | ||
Houston National Forest, and the county is bounded on the east by | ||
Lake Livingston and the Trinity River, making the area ideal for | ||
outdoor enthusiasts; points of interest include Coldspring's | ||
historic downtown area and the old San Jacinto County Jail, which is | ||
listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to a | ||
museum featuring artifacts related to early settlers of East Texas; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The lumber industry has been integral to the area, | ||
and other abundant resources include oil, sand, and gas; and | ||
WHEREAS, San Jacinto County is blessed with a rich history | ||
and beautiful scenery, and its residents may take great pride in | ||
their accomplishments as they continue to work toward an even | ||
brighter future; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby recognize February 16, 2023, as San Jacinto County Day at the | ||
State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best | ||
wishes for an informative and enjoyable stay in Austin. |
