| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Honorable Bascom W. Bentley III, who is being | ||
| honored for his lifetime achievements by the Palestine High | ||
| School Alumni Association on January 27, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Bascom Bentley graduated from Palestine High | ||
| School in 1969, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in | ||
| business administration from The University of Texas and a law | ||
| degree from the University of Houston; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In February of 1977, Mr. Bentley was licensed by | ||
| the State Bar of Texas, and later that same year, he began serving | ||
| as both the city attorney for Palestine and the county attorney | ||
| for Anderson County; he was appointed district judge of the 369th | ||
| Judicial District by Governor William P. Clements on September 1, | ||
| 1989; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In addition to serving on the bench and | ||
| contributing to numerous professional associations, Judge | ||
| Bentley has been dedicated to his work as a community advocate | ||
| and has been honored on several occasions for his extensive | ||
| charitable service on behalf of the needy and for his outstanding | ||
| support of local veterans; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Bascom Bentley is a revered member of his | ||
| community who exemplifies the highest standards of judicial and | ||
| community service, and it is indeed fitting that he is being | ||
| honored as a distinguished alumnus of Palestine High School; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the Honorable Bascom W. Bentley III | ||
| for his many contributions to his community and to the state and | ||
| extend to him best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
