WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize G. Stephen Howerton for his 30 years of outstanding | ||
service as the city manager of Ennis; and | ||
WHEREAS, Steve Howerton has more than 36 years of | ||
successful private and public sector management experience; he | ||
is celebrating his 30th anniversary as manager of the City of | ||
Ennis on June 29, 2011; and | ||
WHEREAS, As the Ennis city manager, Mr. Howerton is well | ||
known for effectively coordinating the goals and activities of | ||
the various city departments; the city is organized into 12 | ||
departments, and there are 180 city employees; and | ||
WHEREAS, | ||
WHEREAS, He has worked with the administrations of six | ||
different mayors, and he has handled the far-reaching | ||
responsibilities of a city manager's position with exceptional | ||
skill and dedication; he has overseen the construction of | ||
numerous projects, including the Ennis Regional Hospital, the | ||
Ennis Public Library, Bluebonnet Park, and the Ennis Public Works | ||
Complex; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Howerton has also overseen the expansion of | ||
the water and wastewater plants and the Ennis Airport on numerous | ||
occasions; he played a significant role in several major economic | ||
development projects, including the recruitment of the $8.3 | ||
billion Superconducting Super Collider Project and a $150 | ||
million power plant; and | ||
WHEREAS, A highly respected civic leader, he has | ||
contributed significantly to the harmony and progress of a | ||
growing city for three decades, and he has been instrumental in | ||
the city's achievement of designation as an official Texas Main | ||
Street Community and as a Texas Certified City for Economic | ||
Leadership; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend G. Stephen | ||
Howerton for his 30 years of outstanding leadership as manager of | ||
the City of Ennis and extend to him best wishes for the future; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
