| Alberto Medrano | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of Alberto "Beto" Medrano, who died | ||
| October 21, 2016, at the age of 77; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Alberto Medrano was born in July of 1939 to Maria | ||
| and Francisco Medrano; he graduated from Brownsville High School | ||
| and served in the United States Army and the Texas National Guard | ||
| before attending Pan American University, where he studied | ||
| criminal justice and sociology; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in law | ||
| enforcement that included service as a police officer in | ||
| Brownsville and Edinburg; he also worked as a juvenile probation | ||
| officer and as a parole officer, and he taught criminal justice | ||
| in the Brownsville Independent School District for 23 years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Medrano was active in a wide range of civic | ||
| organizations, and he was focused on helping young people; he | ||
| generously gave his time to such groups as the Good Neighbor | ||
| Settlement House, the Esperanza Home for Boys, Big Brothers Big | ||
| Sisters, and the West Brownsville Lions Club; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth | ||
| Medrano, raised two children together, Marisa and David, and they | ||
| were blessed with a grandson, Noah; a devout Christian who | ||
| practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of First | ||
| Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
| gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued | ||
| counsel will not be forgotten; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, | ||
| and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
| his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Alberto Medrano; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Alberto Medrano. | ||
