| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Aledo High School Bearcat football team, which won | ||
| the 2020 University Interscholastic League Class 5A Division II | ||
| state championship; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Aledo High School football team won its third | ||
| consecutive state championship and its eighth championship title | ||
| since 2010 by defeating Crosby High School 56-21; the Bearcats | ||
| dominated the game by scoring 42 unanswered points to overcome an | ||
| early 14-7 deficit; this title is the Bearcat football program's | ||
| 10th state championship title, which is a new record in the | ||
| University Interscholastic League's 100-year history; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This year's student athletes have demonstrated | ||
| exceptional dedication and perseverance in the face of the | ||
| unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and | ||
| they can take great pride in their outstanding performances; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership of head coach Tim | ||
| Buchanan and his coaching staff, the Bearcats have developed | ||
| superior teamwork and discipline; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Aledo High School and the citizens of Aledo are | ||
| proud of the Bearcats for their historic victory and for their | ||
| hard work, impressive skills, and fine sportsmanship; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the Aledo High School Bearcat | ||
| football team on its successful season and congratulate the team | ||
| on winning the 2020 Class 5A Division II state championship; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
