| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Judge Maria Casanova, who has been selected as the 2012 | ||
| Jurist of the Year by the Texas Municipal Courts Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Casanova oversees 19 full-time Texas judges | ||
| and an administrative support staff in the City of Houston | ||
| Municipal Courts Department; she is noted for her work in the | ||
| development of the Administrative Violations Court for the City | ||
| of Houston, which handles ordinance violations, including | ||
| habitability and quality-of-life violations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Casanova is known for providing exceptional | ||
| leadership and direction to the City of Houston Municipal Courts | ||
| Department and offering invaluable support to new attorneys and | ||
| law school students; she is being honored for her distinguished | ||
| service at the Texas Municipal Courts Association Annual Banquet | ||
| and Awards Dinner on July 12, 2013, in San Antonio; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Judge Maria | ||
| Casanova on her many contributions to the Houston Municipal | ||
| Courts Department and extend congratulations to her on being | ||
| named the 2012 Jurist of the Year by the Texas Municipal Courts | ||
| Association; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
