| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Chavis Willis for his exemplary service to his fellow | ||
| citizens and his community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Coach Willis is a beloved and respected member of | ||
| the Alta Mesa community in Dallas, where he has long played an | ||
| important role in the education and development of the city's | ||
| youth; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For many years, Mr. Willis served as coach of the | ||
| local Pop Warner football team, the Alta Mesa Colts; for over two | ||
| decades, he helped young men participate in productive | ||
| activities and encouraged them to stay healthy and drug free; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A mentor and role model to countless young men | ||
| from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, he took them to church, | ||
| shared with them the hospitality of his home, and coached them | ||
| with exemplary enthusiasm and expertise; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He is a devout Christian and has been an active | ||
| member of Bethel Baptist Church; now retired from his position at | ||
| Texas Instruments, he continues to work when he is needed at one | ||
| of the Dallas area Head Start programs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Chavis Willis is dedicated to his family and to | ||
| the betterment of his community, and he truly represents the best | ||
| of Texas' citizenry; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Chavis Willis | ||
| for his outstanding service to the Alta Mesa community as a coach | ||
| and a mentor to its young men and extend to him best wishes for | ||
| the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
