Colin Coe | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Austin and Plainview in mourning the loss of Colin | ||
Coe, who died July 27, 2013, at the age of 63; and | ||
WHEREAS, Colin Coe was born on September 15, 1949; in the | ||
1970s and 1980s, he operated a private livestock business and | ||
worked for Southwestern Grain, Incorporated, in Plainview; he | ||
earned a degree from Texas Tech University in 1992, and he | ||
graduated with honors from Texas Tech University School of Law in | ||
1996; and | ||
WHEREAS, Colin was a longtime highly valued staff member of | ||
the Texas Legislature; his career spanned more than 15 years and | ||
included service with the Legislative Budget Board, the Office of | ||
the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Sunset Advisory | ||
Commission, the Office of Senator Royce West, and the Office of | ||
Representative Marisa Márquez; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the course of a decade as general counsel for | ||
Senator West, he provided astute legal advice and legislative | ||
analysis and was responsible for all budget and finance issues; | ||
he was highly respected for his encyclopedic knowledge of the | ||
budget process and was noted for possessing a legislative prowess | ||
second to none; and | ||
WHEREAS, As chief of staff in the Office of Representative | ||
Márquez, he was a valued mentor to his co-workers, with whom he | ||
shared much of his extensive knowledge of both legislative | ||
proceedings and the appropriations process; and | ||
WHEREAS, Throughout his years of legislative service, he | ||
was noted for his wisdom, experience, commitment to the law, and | ||
dedication to the welfare of legislative constituents; he was | ||
also beloved by all who serve in the Capitol for his convivial | ||
spirit, wry wit, and engaging personality; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman in the truest sense | ||
of the phrase, and he was an intelligent, bighearted person who | ||
was respected for his high standards and his accomplishments; he | ||
was devoted to his wife, Cheryl, his daughter and two sons, and | ||
his six grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, A treasured Texas citizen and public servant, | ||
Colin Coe will be greatly missed by his family and friends and by | ||
all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be | ||
it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Colin Coe; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Colin Coe. | ||
