| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, which | ||
| is celebrating 50 years of service on August 2, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council | ||
| was formed in 1967 as one of the state's 24 regional councils of | ||
| government; the voluntary association promotes cooperation among | ||
| the local governments of Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties | ||
| to improve the general welfare of the region; and | ||
| WHEREAS, With a combined population of over 1.2 million | ||
| residents, the Lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the | ||
| fastest-growing regions in the country; the council promotes a | ||
| strong economy by establishing studies and strategic plans that | ||
| guide approaches to development, ensure efficiency in governance, | ||
| and encourage public-private partnerships in regional planning | ||
| endeavors; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For five decades, members of the council have | ||
| worked diligently to ensure the highest quality of life for | ||
| residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley; the council has | ||
| prepared for the future by developing the 2017-2022 Regional | ||
| Strategic Plan, which prioritizes five primary areas of focus | ||
| that will foster regional prosperity for years to come; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Lower Rio | ||
| Grande Valley Development Council for contributing to the | ||
| vitality of the region and extend to all associated with the | ||
| council best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
