Charles Clayton Wilson | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Charles "Bud" | ||
Clayton Wilson, who died December 23, 2012, at the age of 86; and | ||
WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan, Mr. Wilson was born | ||
October 24, 1926, in a home built by his grandfather, William G. | ||
Ellis, Sr., a venerable civic leader; Mr. Wilson would later | ||
follow in his family's footsteps and become a dedicated community | ||
servant; and | ||
WHEREAS, As a young man, he attended Polytechnic High | ||
School in Fort Worth; shortly after graduation, he joined the | ||
United States Merchant Marine and saw combat in both the European | ||
and Pacific theaters in World War II; after his valiant service, | ||
he returned to his hometown and resumed work for the Texas & | ||
Pacific Railroad, where he remained until his retirement; and | ||
WHEREAS, While stationmaster for the railway, Mr. Wilson | ||
claimed the distinction of having flagged out the final Missouri | ||
Pacific passenger train from Fort Worth; his devotion to the | ||
railroad continued later in Retired Railroader Association | ||
monthly breakfast meetings; Mr. Wilson was also a proponent of | ||
veterans rights and a member of the Just Compensation Committee, | ||
an organization founded to protect the benefits of combat | ||
Merchant Marines; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson, who passed away in the house in which | ||
he was born, shared 62 years of wedded bliss with Ova May Davis | ||
Wilson, and the couple raised two children; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage and strength, Mr. Wilson gave | ||
generously to others, and he will long be remembered for his | ||
warmth, wisdom, and wise counsel; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
83rd Legislature, hereby extend condolences to the family of | ||
Charles "Bud" Clayton Wilson; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy | ||
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of Charles Wilson. | ||
