Wayne Smith Johnston | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Wayne Smith Johnston, who died on July | ||
14, 2022, at the age of 77; and | ||
WHEREAS, Wayne Smith Johnston was born on January 5, 1945, | ||
in Port Arthur; Wayne and his two brothers experienced the joys | ||
of a rural upbringing, and country life imbued Wayne's spirit | ||
with a lifelong love of nature, wildlife, and the outdoors; and | ||
WHEREAS, After graduating from Tivy High School in | ||
Kerrville, Wayne met the love of his life and future wife, Sue | ||
Cunningham; he was drafted into the United States Army during the | ||
Vietnam War in 1966 and deployed to Germany, where he and Sue | ||
married in 1968; and | ||
WHEREAS, When Wayne concluded his military service, he and | ||
Sue moved to Lubbock, and the couple earned their degrees from | ||
Texas Tech University; Wayne graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's | ||
of science in agricultural agronomy, and the family settled in | ||
San Antonio; and | ||
WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman and an expert in the science | ||
of soil management and crop production, Wayne led a career in | ||
agricultural sales and owned a tractor dealership for several | ||
years before focusing on the sale of mechanic specialty products | ||
until his retirement; and | ||
WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional and personal | ||
achievements, Wayne was admired for his kindhearted nature and | ||
for the warmth and generosity that he extended to others; a | ||
longtime member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, where he | ||
served as an elder and deacon for many years, Wayne was led by | ||
principles of faith and unconditional love in his daily life, and | ||
he approached his interactions with his loved ones with | ||
unwavering support, encouragement, and affection; and | ||
WHEREAS, Wayne and Sue's union of 54 years provided a model | ||
of lasting devotion to their children, Jamie and Bryson, whom | ||
they raised by loving example; Wayne's grandsons, Jack and | ||
Benton, brought immeasurable joy to his life, and he delighted in | ||
their successes and accomplishments; and | ||
WHEREAS, Wayne was a compassionate man who gave | ||
unselfishly to others, and his positive outlook, unwavering | ||
strength, and dedication to his family set a shining example for | ||
others to follow; he leaves behind memories that will be forever | ||
cherished by his loved ones and by all who were blessed to share | ||
in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Wayne Smith Johnston; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Wayne Johnston. | ||
