| Ola V. Tryon | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of longtime civic | ||
| leader Ola V. Tryon, who died May 17, 2013, at the age of 91; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ola Tryon was born to Daniel and Manassie Polk of | ||
| Leon County; she married her husband, the late Roger Tryon, in | ||
| 1941, and the couple moved to Corpus Christi; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her | ||
| daily life, she was a longtime member of Saint Paul United | ||
| Methodist Church, where she was active in a wide variety of | ||
| groups, including the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and the | ||
| United Methodist Women; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She was affectionately known as the Hat Lady, and | ||
| she took an active role as a leader in her children's Boy Scout | ||
| and Girl Scout activities; she also gave generously of her time | ||
| and talent to such organizations as the Beauty Court of Calanthe | ||
| Chapter 371, the 1937 Art and Culture Club, and numerous senior | ||
| citizen organizations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She was devoted to her large and loving family, | ||
| and she leaves her 10 children, 22 grandchildren, 27 | ||
| great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren countless | ||
| treasured memories that will be cherished in the years to come; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
| condolences to the bereaved family of Ola V. Tryon; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Ola V. Tryon. | ||
