| WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, retired Command | ||
| Sergeant Major Dr. Evelyn Hollis served her country with great | ||
| distinction as a member of the U.S. Army, and the observance of | ||
| Women Veterans Day 2023 provides a fitting opportunity to pay | ||
| tribute to her outstanding military career; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hollis joined the U.S. Army in 1979 as an | ||
| administrative assistant, and she went on to become the first | ||
| African American woman in army history to serve as a command | ||
| sergeant major for a combat arms unit; her overseas assignments | ||
| included tours in Germany and operational deployments to | ||
| Southwest Asia and Iraq; she has worked as a military analyst for | ||
| the Air Defense Artillery School and as a senior technical | ||
| trainer for the Command Post of the Future; currently, she | ||
| teaches at Park University and serves as an honorary sergeant | ||
| major with the 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran has received numerous | ||
| honors, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and | ||
| various foreign and service awards, and she was inducted into the | ||
| U.S. Army Women's Foundation Hall of Fame; she holds a master's | ||
| degree in human resource development and management as well as a | ||
| doctorate in management; and | ||
| WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Evelyn Hollis upheld | ||
| the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating | ||
| exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow | ||
| citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) | ||
| Dr. Evelyn Hollis for her military service on the occasion of | ||
| Women Veterans Day 2023 and extend to her sincere best wishes for | ||
| the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis as | ||
| an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
