Estela Zamora Kramer | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Estela Zamora Kramer, | ||
a beloved community leader, who died December 31, 2018, at the | ||
age of 89; and | ||
WHEREAS, Estela Kramer began her pioneering service to the | ||
Laredo community at the young age of 16, when she was hired as the | ||
first female swimming instructor to teach at the Laredo Boys | ||
Club; she went on to receive advanced dance training at Texas | ||
Woman's University, and in 1963, she was hired by the Laredo | ||
Independent School District to develop and direct the physical | ||
education department at the new J.W. Nixon High School; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kramer established the school district's | ||
first dance team, the J.W. Nixon High School Golden Spurs, which | ||
went on to earn national and international acclaim; she also | ||
created the Silver Roses dance team at Cigarroa High School, and | ||
in 2012, the school district dedicated the Estela Zamora Kramer | ||
Gymnasium in her honor; in addition, Mrs. Kramer founded the | ||
Washington Birthday Celebration Association Youth Dance | ||
Festival; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kramer shared a life of devotion with her | ||
husband, the late Walter Harry Kramer Jr., and she was blessed | ||
with three children, Betty Kramer, Walter Kramer III, and the | ||
late John David Kramer; and | ||
WHEREAS, Estela Kramer was a treasured citizen who made a | ||
lasting mark on the Laredo community, and she leaves behind | ||
memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged | ||
to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Estela Zamora Kramer; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Estela Kramer. | ||
