| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of | ||
| Houston, Texas, on the grand occasion of its 130th anniversary, | ||
| which is being celebrated August 14, 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the last 130 years, the Brown Chapel African | ||
| Methodist Episcopal Church has ministered faithfully to the | ||
| needs of the citizens of Houston, and due to the guidance and wise | ||
| stewardship of its current pastor, Reverend Dr. Ruben Braziel, | ||
| the church has undertaken many worthy projects in the community; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The church was organized during a meeting that | ||
| took place on July 10, 1881; it was planned with the intention of | ||
| serving the West End and Chaneyville communities, which later | ||
| became the Sixth Ward; the church was named in honor of its first | ||
| pastor, Reverend Louis Brown; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the church has served as | ||
| an invaluable source of strength to its members during their | ||
| hardships and in difficult times; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The observance of the church's 130th anniversary | ||
| is an opportunity to celebrate its contributions to area citizens | ||
| and to show appreciation for the support and inspiration it | ||
| provides the community; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to the | ||
| clergy and members of Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal | ||
| Church on the joyous occasion of its 130th anniversary; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the church in honor of this special occasion. | ||
