Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 2 of Chapter 29 of Title 54.1 a section numbered 54.1-2928.3 as follows:
§54.1-2928.3. Board to adopt regulations related to screening patients for adverse childhood experiences.
The Board shall adopt regulations requiring every health care practitioner licensed by the Board who provides primary health care services to, at the time of a patient's first appointment, (i) provide to patients information regarding the impact of adverse childhood experiences on physical and mental health and the risks and benefits of screening patients for adverse childhood experiences and (ii) screen patients for adverse childhood experiences that may impact a patient's physical or mental health or the provision of health care services to the patient.
