14102425D Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. §1. That the Department of Health shall convene a workgroup to study and make recommendations related to the provision of care of individuals with dementia residing in nursing homes in the Commonwealth. In conducting its study, the workgroup shall review requirements and standards for (i) training related to the needs of individuals with dementia and the care of individuals with dementia for direct care workers, supervisors of direct care workers, and activities directors at nursing homes and facilities with special care units for individuals with dementia; (ii) activities programs for individuals with dementia residing in nursing homes and facilities with special care units for individuals with dementia, particularly those activities programs that are specifically oriented toward individuals with dementia; and (iii) the physical design of special care units for individuals with dementia in nursing homes and facilities, particularly as relates to requirements and standards to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals with dementia, which may include therapeutic environment and anti-wandering design requirements and standards. The workgroup shall report its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly by October 1, 2015. |
