14102604D Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. §1. That the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services shall convene a work group consisting of representatives of law-enforcement agencies, community services boards, private providers of behavioral health care, individuals receiving behavioral health services and family members of individuals receiving behavioral health services, and other interested stakeholders to study barriers to cooperation and communication between law enforcement and behavioral health care providers in cases involving individuals in need of mental health evaluation and treatment and make recommendations related to improving communication and cooperation among law enforcement and behavioral health care providers, including communication and cooperation in cases in which an individual is taken into emergency custody or held for temporary detention or involuntary admission for treatment, in order to improve the safety and well-being of the public and the individual. The work group shall report its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly by December 1, 2014. |
