WHEREAS, Vaudene Rose Fable Pedigo of Williamsburg, who touched the lives of thousands of children as a teacher and librarian during a long and productive career in public education and whose zest for life kept her active and engaged, died on September 6, 2015; and WHEREAS, Vaudene "Viky" Rose Fable Pedigo, who was a native of Louisville, Kentucky, earned a bachelor's degree from Butler University and a master's degree from Emory University and was a member of several professional organizations; and WHEREAS, Viky Pedigo started her career in education as a teacher at Matthew Whaley Elementary School; she became a librarian in 1974 after she had temporarily lost the ability to speak and then followed her doctors' recommendation to find work that required less talking; and WHEREAS, Viky Pedigo was an employee of the Williamsburg-James City County Public School division for 50 years until her retirement in 2015; she was passionate about literature and worked tirelessly to instill a love of reading in children; and WHEREAS, Viky Pedigo also was at Rawls Byrd Elementary School for many years and was media specialist at the school when she retired; additionally, she taught children's literature courses at The College of William and Mary and assisted young people who were studying for a GED; and WHEREAS, Viky Pedigo, who enjoyed staying busy and involved, taught English as a Second Language; in addition to her many varied cultural interests, she was a summer librarian for the school division and also worked with local organizations to encourage literacy; and WHEREAS, Viky Pedigo will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her son, Lance; and many family members, friends, colleagues, and the legions of people who as children developed a love of the written word due in part to her devoted efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Vaudene Rose Fable Pedigo of Williamsburg, an esteemed teacher and librarian who worked for 50 years to foster a love of reading in her pupils; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Vaudene Rose Fable Pedigo as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory. |
