WHEREAS, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which contributes greatly to the health and safety of the people of the Commonwealth, celebrated its 50th anniversary on September 9, 2009; and WHEREAS, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and its hardworking employees are committed to saving the lives of not only Virginians, but of everyone who drives or rides in a motor vehicle; and WHEREAS, IIHS has brought scientific methods to the study of highway safety problems, a field dominated for decades by nonscientific inquiry; and WHEREAS, IIHS has pioneered and successfully implemented many lifesaving highway safety programs throughout Virginia and the nation and continues to conduct research and communications programs at its headquarters in Arlington and its Vehicle Research Center in Greene County; and WHEREAS, IIHS has been conducting essential and important programs for 50 years, saving many lives and providing jobs for the citizens of Virginia; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for its valuable contributions to the health and safety of Virginians and all Americans on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude to the organization for its dedication to public safety. |
