WHEREAS, the Office of the Motor Vehicle Commissioner was created in 1924 to enforce motor vehicle laws, marking a pivotal moment in the establishment of organized motor vehicle regulations; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has evolved over the years, adapting to changing community needs, integrating technological advancements, and ensuring accessibility for all residents; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles currently operates 76 Customer Service Centers and 61 DMV Selects, as well as offering mobile services; the agency maintains 13 strategically located weigh stations, inspecting 20 million trucks annually, and serves as the Commonwealth's Highway Safety Office, actively improving roadway safety; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles serves more than 4.5 million Virginians annually, the highest number of any state agency, and collects close to $4 billion in revenue annually to fund highway construction and maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles extends its services to diverse stakeholders, fostering partnerships with law enforcement, dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and nonprofit partner organizations; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of its dedicated employees have been integral to the success of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, playing a vital role in advancing the agency to its present operational standards; and
WHEREAS, through its commitment to service excellence, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has streamlined processes, enhanced efficiency, and implemented initiatives that have a positive impact on the lives of Virginians; and
WHEREAS, the 100th anniversary of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is an occasion that deserves recognition and celebration, acknowledging its steadfast dedication to providing essential services to all residents of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles will continue to uphold its critical mission of safeguarding lives, securing identities, serving the motoring public, and supporting industry partners; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for its outstanding contributions to the Commonwealth, its dedication to innovation, and its commitment to public service on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the agency's long history of service to the residents of the Commonwealth and best wishes for continued success.
