HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 184
Commending the Lynchburg Museum System.

WHEREAS, the Lynchburg Museum System collects, interprets, preserves, and shares the history and culture of the City of Lynchburg and the surrounding region; and

WHEREAS, the Lynchburg Museum System manages two locations, the Lynchburg Museum at the Old Court House and Point of Honor, a historic home on Daniel's Hill, both of which are listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places; and

WHEREAS, the Lynchburg Museum System cares for more than 40,000 artifacts and collects diverse stories representing three centuries of local history; it has provided informative historical interpretation for generations of residents and tourists of all ages and backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, the Lynchburg Museum System maintains a partnership with Lynchburg City Schools to enhance the learning process by hosting field trips for all local public school students in first through fourth grade; and

WHEREAS, the Lynchburg Museum System has served the Commonwealth by loaning artwork for display at the Virginia State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, the Lynchburg Museum System is a division of the Lynchburg Office of Economic Development and Tourism and is supported by the Lynchburg Museum Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1998; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lynchburg Museum System for its contributions to historical education and service to the Lynchburg community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Lynchburg Museum System as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its efforts to preserve the history and heritage of the Commonwealth.
