WHEREAS, Clyde Bernard Fowler has been an inspirational member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission for over 30 years and a tireless and persistent champion of restoring the Chesapeake Bay for nearly half a century; and WHEREAS, Clyde Bernard "Bernie" Fowler's unwavering vision and commitment to restore his beloved Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay has inspired his colleagues on the Chesapeake Bay Commission and spurred them to action in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, from his time as a Calvert County Commissioner throughout his service as a state senator and then as a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission, Bernie Fowler has championed laws, policies, and funding to restore the Chesapeake Bay; and WHEREAS, Bernie Fowler has made complicated restoration science understandable to the general public and has encouraged the development of citizen scientists through his annual "Wade-in" to gauge water quality on the Patuxent River; and WHEREAS, Bernie Fowler's emphasis on using sound science to address citizen concerns has resulted in the adoption of restoration plans that will clean the Chesapeake Bay and the rivers that flow into the Bay; and WHEREAS, Bernie Fowler has never wavered in his vision of restoring the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay to the splendor of his youth; and WHEREAS, Bernie Fowler's infectious love for the Chesapeake Bay has inspired millions to champion the cause of Bay restoration; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Clyde Bernard Fowler for his dedication to the Chesapeake Bay Commission as its longest-serving member; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clyde Bernard Fowler as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his dedication and contributions to the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. |
